Tastes Of Tag: 2015 Movies Edition
“No good movie is too long and no bad movie is short enough.” Roger Ebert.
We all love movies. Well, at least the data showing it generates over $30 billion, in the US alone, each year (and rising) would seem to support that claim.
Movies entertain and connect with audiences on many different levels; and they have the power to evoke all kinds of emotions. They thrill us; they make us sad; they scare us; they make us smile and laugh.
With this kind of power, brands look to capitalize on, and take advantage of, these captive audiences.
Through product placement, brands try to subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) sneak into movies in the hope of connecting the viewer with their product through an emotional connection. Hopefully, this association with the movie leads to sales. Sometimes they are successful and sometimes not so successful. Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me) took it one step further, creating a movie that was all product placements. Check out his great Ted Talk on the subject:
While we go to the movies for a little escapism – to take a break from it all, brands will be there in the seat right next to us.
In honor of the upcoming Oscars, take a break and enjoy this clip of all 2014’s nominated films in one supercut:
