We all attend networking events because it is essential for making connections, building relationships and raising awareness of our businesses. To make the most of these opportunities, it is important to be prepared to represent the brand of yourself and your company in the best light possible. Remember that every impression you make is a brand impression, so be sure it’s a positive one.

Here are some tips for being on your “A” game:

  1. Do your research.

    Many networking events  will share their attendance list in advance. You can search online or ask the host. Whether is it the company or individual name, if you know who you want to talk to, and what you want to say, then you will be prepared for a productive event.

  2. Have your business cards handy.

    Preferably in your pocket or an outer pocket of your purse so you can easily reach them. You don’t want to create an awkward moment and negative impression by fumbling for your card.

  3. Wear your name tag on the right side.

    When you shake someone’s hand, their eyes easily follow your arm to your name tag.

  4. Start the conversation.

    It can be uncomfortable talking to someone you don’t know but if you know your elevator speech, you’re ready to engage. You’ll make a good impression for both you and your company’s brand.

  5. Follow up.

    Whether it is a phone call , email or LinkedIn, keep it short and sweet but let them know you want to continue the relationship.
